This quote by Sir Edmund Hillary describes my feelings about climbing perfectly.
Climbing is a pain in the butt - and everywhere else for that matter. But if you are willing to accept that fact, you will excel yourself, physically and mentally. It is difficult to put into words but it almost feels like somewhere between the foot of the mountain and the summit, you are going through some kind of transformation that makes you grow stronger. You will stop fighting it and spare your energy for important things. As soon as you accept the challenge, you will start to relax even though it is exhausting. And although it may seem impossible at first, you will reach your goal, step by step, if you keep going. And that I believe to be a valuable life lesson.
For that reason I voluntarily got up at 6 a.m. last weekend (even though normally I'm a total nighthawk) to go to Weilchensee and climb up the Herzogstand. And as you can see, the view alone has been worthwhile the exertion :)
Unfortunately the water was too cold to go swimming but we got in for a few seconds anyway for a little refreshment before having dinner by the lake at the restaurant Grauer Bär.
